Wednesday, Season 2, Part 1 has finally been released after almost three years of waiting. Season 1 was dropped on Netflix in November 2022 and received immense love from the viewers, making it the most-watched English show ever on the streaming platform. The Jenna Ortega-led series mirrored the same success on its debut week with season 2. Keep scrolling for the deets.

Season 1 has also resurfaced in the streamer’s weekly global list. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, Ortega shines in the titular role. Four of the eight episodes in the first season were directed by Tim Burton, who was also the executive producer. The second season has more supernatural elements, and this is only part 2; the second part will be dropped next month.

Wednesday Season 2 OTT Verdict Week 1

Based on Netflix data, Wednesday Season 2 debuted at #1 in the global weekly chart from August 4-10. In just five days, it garnered 50 million views, and 201.6 million hours of it were watched. It is already a huge success with just half of season 2; the second half will spike the views further.

Rules at #1 in 91 countries!

The Jenna Ortega-led series is trending in 93 countries and is at #1 in 91 of them. From the United States to Canada, Belgium, Italy, India, and Hong Kong, the series is enjoying the top spot in almost all places. This is also a record-breaking achievement for the show. Season 2 Part 1 has set a new record for the most countries where an English-language TV show topped the weekly chart, hitting No. 1 in 91 nations.

Comparison with Season 1’s debut

Wednesday Season 2 achieved 50 million views in its first five days, with half the number of episodes. It is the same as season 1, released in November 2022. At the time, Netflix ranked shows by hours watched instead of views, and Season 1 got 341.1 million hours watched in its 5 days. Dividing that by how long the first season’s approx 6 hours and 49 minutes overall duration, the views for Season 1 in its debut week were around 50.1 million views. Therefore, it is almost the same as season 2’s 50 million views, slightly more than that.

Hence, both seasons had nearly identical popularity, but it shall be noted that only four episodes of season 2 have garnered this many views, and it will be more when season part 2 drops. Thus, Wednesday Season 2 has the potential to dethrone Season 1 as the most-watched English-language show ever on Netflix. For the August 4-10 week, Wednesday season 1 holds the #2 spot with 8.6 million views.

Jenna Ortega-led Wednesday season 2 part 1 premiered on Netflix on August 4, and part 2 will be released on September 3.

Note: The debut week viewership numbers are the official numbers given by Netflix for all the series that arrived on the platform, irrespective of the day they arrived in a week. Some arrived on the fourth day of a week, some on the 5th, and so on, but the debut numbers are calculated by Netflix weekly, not day-wise.
