Pankaj Tripathi is one of the most versatile actors in Bollywood who played different kinds of roles which are etched in our minds. Whether it’s the wicked Sultan Qureshi in Gangs of Wasseypur or the smart and hilarious Rudra in Stree, Tripathi always entertained us and won our hearts. Currently, he is being showered with praises for his performance as Guruji in Netflix’s series, Sacred Games 2. The show also stars Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles.
In an interview with Koimoi, when I asked Pankaj Tripathi what he thinks of the response his character Guruji received, he said he is overwhelmed. The Newton actor answered, “Every role I do, I do it with a lot of honesty and the way the writer wants me to deliver. It feels good when the character becomes popular and people start talking about it. Some people now call me Guruji and say that now whatever you say, it seems like we are hearing Guruji talking.”
Pankaj Tripathi revealed that he didn’t do any preparations to play Guruji in SG2 and left it on director Anurag Kashyap and the way he wants to see the character. “Acting is more fun when you hide less than what you show. When the mystery of the character stars unfolding slowly, that’s when it comes across interesting. I didn’t do any preparations to play Guruji. I did what Anurag Kashyap was expecting out of me and there was no scope to improvise the character too. But the calmness Guruji has even I am like that. Rest, I let the director decide. I’m an obedient actor, I listen to what the director expects from me,” shared the actor.
