Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone just penned about “what (he) knew” when making ‘Rocky’.

The 77-year-old star wrote the script for the 1976 film — which spawned the iconic franchise featuring Sly as Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa — and used his own life as inspiration during his initial ideas for the character, reports aceshowbiz.com.

“I just wrote about what I knew. I was writing a lot about this little kind of mentally challenged guy who happened to have a lot of heart. I wanted to write a movie about a guy who says, ‘I’m not great at all, never will be. I fight great fighters. But I just want the opportunity to go the distance,’ ” Sylvester Stallone said at the Toronto International Film Festival.
