American songwriter-record producer Robert Sylvester Kelly professionally known as R Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison as he faces conviction for racketeering and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting people across state lines for prostitution, reports ‘Variety’.

For the unversed, Kelly is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. As an artist, he was credited with helping redefine R&B and hip hop and thereby earned nicknames such as ‘King of R&B’, ‘King of Pop-Soul’ and ‘Pied Piper of R&B’. Before being known as an s*x  offender, he was known for his extensive discography of hits spanning three decades. He was also the recipient of three Grammy Awards for his song ‘I Believe I Can Fly’.

Kelly has been in jail since July of 2019; 45 witnesses testified for the government. As per ‘Variety’, he still faces child p*rnography and obstruction of justice charges in Chicago, as well as charges in state courts in Illinois and Minnesota.
