Jokerstarring Joaquin Phoenix was surely one of the most critically acclaimed films of last year and it did pass with flying colours at the box office too. The dark and twisted stand-alone representation of Gotham’s clown prince of crime was mastered by Joaquin.
Everyone still is emotionally connected Heath Ledger’s Joker but what Joaquin Phoenix did with his performance was never anticipated by anyone. No one saw someone come so close (and better for many) to what Heath did in The Dark Knight. But do you know before Joaquin Phoenix, Warner Bros had plans to bring in another actor on-board?
Martin Scorsese was also connected to the film as a producer but he skipped ahead and went ahead with The Irishman. But, when Martin was said to be a part of the film, it was being said that Warner Bros are trying to bring in Leonardo DiCaprio as Joker. That never happened and Leo fans surely will be disappointed.
This is what The Hollywood Reporter posted back in September 2017, “The answer involves a plan worthy of The Joker himself. Sources say Warners will make an ambitious attempt to use Scorsese to bring Leonardo DiCaprio into the world of comic-book movies. Certainly, Scorsese’s involvement in The Joker film, which The Hangover filmmaker Todd Phillips would direct, could elevate and diversify the studio’s contributions to the genre, creating the potential to make awards-worthy films such as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy.”
The report also read, “There’s no offer for DiCaprio, and sources say Scorsese’s deal to produce isn’t even done yet. The chances of landing DiCaprio could be slim to none. But the attempt in itself sends a signal to the talent that Warners wants to hire serious filmmakers to make serious films.”
So what if this never happened, a fan on Instagram went ahead to photoshop Leonardo DiCaprio as Joker and it looks like a beautiful nightmare that never came true.
