Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie created box office history with Barbie last year. The Oscars 2024 might have overlooked Gerwig and Robbie’s contribution to cinema, but Warner Bros chief Pam Abdy is on board for a Barbie 2. The movie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer are part of Letterboxd’s Most Obsessively Rewatched Best Picture Nominees of the 21st Century.
The 2023 blockbuster had an ensemble cast with Ryan Gosling as one of the Kens. While Ryan and America Ferrera got nominated for the Oscars 2024, Margot and Greta were not. The film is about Barbie and Ken enjoying the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. But when they visit the real world, they discover the joys and perils of living among humans.
The cast includes Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, and Will Ferrell. Now Pam Abdy, the co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros Motion Picture Group, has positively indicated their willingness to make Barbie 2 with Greta Gerwig. She told the BBC that the studio and Greta always discuss the possibility of carrying Barbie’s legacy forward. The film earned $1.44 billion at the worldwide box office.
