Everyone would be aware of Michael Jackson’s first and the only visit to India when he arrived in Mumbai in 1996. He was greeted by late Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray and then Shiv Udyog Sena’s leader, Raj Thackeray.

We can still recall the whole ‘welcome’ scene of the King of Pop on 30th October 1996. He arrived in Mumbai with a private jet. He was welcomed by traditionally dressed Sonali Bendre and Raj Thackeray. And then Jackson paid a visit to his one of the biggest fan’s residence.

Yes, the fan was none other than Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray. On the same day of his arrival in the city, Michael Jackson visited Matoshree in Kalanagar, Bandra. Both sharing a great interest in arts, had a gala time discussing several topics, but Thackeray’s one line grabbed all the laugh and attention, which is now forgotten by many.

One of the reporters present during their meeting, put forth a mischievous question to Balasaheb Thackeray. The reporter asked if Jackson looks like a man or a woman? To which, Thackeray answered in his usual style, “Somewhere in between,” as per the report in Hindustan Times. Such one-word but a hilarious reply was enough to burst the laughter amongst all.

Further, Michael Jackson performed at Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai on 1st November 1996. The event was planned and organised by the event management company named Wizcraft and Raj Thackeray.
