FRIENDS has been our blessing in disguise amid lockdown. Be it Courteney Cox aka Monica’s OCD issues or ‘Joey’ Matt LeBlanc’s obsession with food – each one of us could relate to something or the other. Well, when we talk about the sitcom, one cannot miss out Ross and Rachel. But did you know the characters weren’t supposed to be given a romantic angle? Scroll below for all the scoop.
Well, yes, we were in shock too! Ross and Rachel’s ‘we’re on a break’ was never the plan since Day 1. David Crane and Marta Kauffman pretty much had everything sorted out. But looks like this was the innovation or rather improvisation planned on sets. But why? There is indeed an interesting reason.
While Rachel Green’s sass and her attitude remained the talk of the town, people loved Ross for his unusual self too. They did get along really well in the series, just like the rest of the squad. Apart from that, it was never the plan to unite them and show them as the central romantic pair. However, Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer’s real-life chemistry that caught the makers’ radar.

When Marta Kauffman and David Crane witnessed Jennifer and David’s chemistry on the sets, the planned to develop it on-screen. It was only after that thought, that the plotline was developed in a way that witnessed the two actors as a pair on-screen. Clearly, Aniston and Schwimmer had an aura that we missed watching on sets. Wish we could witness some BTS moments from FRIENDS.
