After a just about okay Day One that brought in 5.57 crore, Wazir needed a good push over the rest of the weekend to hold a good chance for staying steady during the weekdays. Though to its good fortune the film didn’t witness a fall in collections, the jump wasn’t extraordinary either to facilitate celebrations. Saturday was decent and Sunday too showed a rise, though the required escalation was much higher.
The film currently stands around the 21 crore mark and for a film of this stature with the kind it boasts of, at least 25 crore over the weekend would have been a much better bet. One would have not paid much heed to this shortfall, considering the fact that it is an almost solo release in the running and has a fortnight open ahead of it. However, since the word of mouth is mixed as well, it was all the more important for the Bejoy Nambiar directed film to have gained more moolah over the opening weekend itself.

While the numbers are certainly lesser than Amitabh Bachchan’s Piku (25.22 crore), the film is following almost the same trajectory as Farhan Akhtar’s last release as the leading man, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, which was released a couple of years ago. The romcom drama had opened at 5.7 crore, went on to have a weekend of 21.26 crore and then ended its first week at 30.83 crore. It has to be seen now that what’s the kind of first week total does the dramatic thriller Wazir go on to enjoy in four days from now.

Another release of the week, Chauranga, was a festival outing and saw restricted count of shows for itself. It did fetch good reviews, though collections were quite minimal.
Bajirao Mastani had a decent weekend with around 4 crore more coming in. It currently stands around the 175 crore mark. On the other hand Dilwale has now started collecting in lakhs and couldn’t progress much. It has pushed its way to the 147 crore total.
Note: All collections as per production and distributor sources
