While a double-digit opening comes at a premium these days, to gather 20 crore or more in a single day is a distant dream in itself, especially when it comes to mid-budget films. Well, Shaitaan has managed to earn this for itself, what with 20.74 crore coming on Sunday.
No one, really one, could have claimed that the Vikas Bahl-directed supernatural psychological thriller would be able to reach this kind of number in its run, and here, Shaitaan has done that with style and without creating any fuss.
What’s all the more remarkable is that all of this is pretty organic. Yes, the first day did get some sort of push due to the Mahashivratri national holiday, but still, reaching 15.21 crore was not a child’s play. Also, had the film not been accepted, then Saturday and Sunday growth wouldn’t have occurred.
However, the film first grew quite well on the second day, and now, on the third day, the collections have been rather good across the country, and that too in class as well as mass centers, and in multiplexes as well as the single screens. That’s truly remarkable.
As a result, the Ajay Devgn and Madhavan starrer has now scored a quick century in just three days, what with the overall total standing at 55.13 crore. It’s a solid number for the mid-budget film, and consolidation is now the key.
The film will certainly see a drop on Monday, but as long as around 6–7 crores come in, it would be good enough. By the look of things, this should turn out to be the case, and once that happens, Shaitaan will be assured of a solid Week One total.
