After all the brouhaha that had surrounded the release of Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar for months in succession, the verdict is finally out. Both films have managed to survive at the box office and that has been good enough for two reasons. First and foremost it demonstrates once again that if audience catches fancy for a film, the clash – for all it’s repercussions – doesn’t kill chances of competition. Secondly, sky is the limit for a universally accepted film, considering the fact that neither of the two films has been any great shakes and has seen adverse reactions from different quarters.

However, the job has been done for Shah Rukh Khan as well as Ajay Devgn. With Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Shah Rukh is now all set for yet another 100 crore winner at the box office. With this, he is the only actor other than Salman Khan to enjoy a hat trick of centuries. With a six day weekend already helping the film garner over 82 crores already, the film will touch the 100 crore mark by the time it enters it’s second weekend. It has to be seen though the kind of distance that the film covers from this point on. After all, the film has hardly been hailed as a classic and though for most it is much more tolerable than Ra. One (which means it won’t crash in the second week), a long run is also ruled out.
As things stand today, anything over 130 crores would be a bonus for the film though in the process, Shah Rukh can indeed expect his biggest ever grosser till date. As for Katrina Kaif, she can well enjoy her fourth biggie after Ek Tha Tiger, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Raajneeti. For Anushka Sharma, this would be her first step into the 100 crore club.
On the other hand Son Of Sardaar has managed to throw around it’s weight and has gathered close to 64.05 crores in it’s kitty during the six day weekend. While it is a given that the race to 100 crores mark for this Ajay Devgn starrer would be relatively faster than that of ‘Bol Bachchan’ and ‘Singham’ [both of which just about managed to say hello to the milestone], the film should see an overall total in the excess of 110 crores.
Considering the fact that both Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar are expensive films, collections to the tune of 130 crores and 110 crores respectively should still allow them to breathe easy. However it may be too pre-mature to come up with massive celebrations since there is a lot that both films need to bring on table before accounting for any massive profits. However while that happens, for the audience which is fascinated by the sheer concept of a film being judged on the basis of it’s entry into the 100 crore club, both Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar are no less hits.
