The iconic dynamic duo of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan has officially reunited on the big screen with their dark, intense thriller Haiwaan. Promoted as an edge-of-your-seat crime thriller, the film opened in theaters nationwide on September 11, sparking curiosity among urban audiences and genre enthusiasts. The film has opened with its first legit milestone at the box office.

Enters Top 5 Crime Thriller Openings Post-COVID

As per early estimates coming in, the Priyadarshan film has opened on a decent note at the Indian box office, landing as the fifth-best opening for a dark-themed crime thriller post-COVID. In fact, it has pushed Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Buckingham Murders out of the top 5 openings.

Haiwaan Box Office Day 1 Estimates

On the opening day, September 11, 2026, Friday, Haiwaan opened in the range of 3.5 – 4 crore at the box office as per early trends. The film secured a wide release across approximately 7,200 show in India. However, given its dark and intense subject matter, morning and afternoon shows registered subtle turnout, leading to an overall average occupancy of 11% across the day.

As expected for a crime-thriller, metro circuits contributed the lion’s share to the opening day numbers. Delhi-NCR led the nationwide chart with a maximum allocation of 750 shows, recording an encouraging 15.5% occupancy. Meanwhile, Mumbai followed closely with 500 shows, registering a 12.3% occupancy level. The evening and night shows displayed a healthy pickup, indicating that word-of-mouth will be the ultimate driving force for weekend growth.

With an opening range of 3.5 – 4 crore, Haiwaan has comfortably secured its spot among the Top 5 highest opening crime thrillers in the post-COVID era.
