Akaza’s Return has achieved many milestones at the box office. It is the highest-grossing anime film in India, the US, and many other overseas markets. But fans are excited to see if it surpasses its predecessor, The Mugen Train, and gains the #1 spot in Japan.
In 165 days of its theatrical run, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has accumulated ¥38.76 billion ($267.14 million) at the Japanese box office. It managed to collect $120K yesterday, despite competition from Chainsaw Man, The Last Man, Avatar: Fire And Ash, Kokuho, and Zootopia 2.

In the local currency, The Mugen Train is still the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time. The OG film of the dark fantasy anime series had concluded its lifetime at Â¥40.75 billion. This means Akaza’s Return still needs Â¥1.99 billion to climb up to the #1 spot. It will be interesting to note how close it gets to the final target during the holiday season.
