Madaari hasn’t taken a good opening at the Box Office. The film was never expected to take a flying start but still, collections were expected to be reasonably good at the least. After all, last year when Irrfan’s Talvar, which belonged to a similar genre, had arrived on the Gandhi Jayanti weekend [2nd October] and that too in straight competition with hardcore commercial ‘masala’ biggie Singh Is Bliing, it had still managed 2.5 crore on its opening day. However, Madaari had just about managed to approach the 2 crore* mark and that too with only Kabalialongside it, which has limited audience in Hindi markets.
The signs were all there since the film was struggling to get the momentum going in buzz and hype. Thankfully, there was better awareness created around the release timing but that was never going to be sufficient for a horde of audiences to be stepping in right from the first show. That said, the film did see gradual increase in footfalls as the day progressed. Since the film is a hardcore multiplex affair, it was always going to be evening and night shows that held the key. In that aspect, the Nishikant Kamat directed film could breathe better at least to some extent.
Box Office – Madaari takes a lesser opening than Talvar
Madaari is on the same lines as Highway. The Alia Bhatt starrer had brought in 3.25 crore on its Day One and then escalated over the weekend [13 crore]. Madaari would have to cover quite some distance in the remainder of the weekend to come anywhere close by.
