Box Office – July To Be Best Ever For Bollywood With Sultan, Great Grand Masti & Dishoom?

Ok, so the verdict is pretty much clear. Sultan is, at bare minimum, a Superhit waiting to happen and most in the industry, trade and audiences are positive that a Blockbuster is on the cards. While no one is disputing the fact that Salman Khan has yet another 250 crore biggie up his sleeves, the question is around how much more would it do from there on.

This also means that the film would do more than the sum total of what two 100 crore earners have done so far – Airlift [127.80 crore] and Housefull 3 [107.70 crore]. Considering the fact that the first half of the year hasn’t been great with only these two films and Baaghi [76 crore] turning out to be major grossers, the kick-start of the second half of the year with the mega success of Sultan has spelt great news for the industry.

No wonder, the buzz in the town is that the month of July would be the best ever for Bollywood so far. Reason being that two major films, Great Grand Masti and Dishoom, are set to release as well in weeks to come.

Great Grand Masti, Indra’s Kumar third in the Masti series, has seen a good response coming its way for the promo. Moreover, the franchise has a good recall value and Grand Masti [102 crore] had done nearly five times the business of Masti [21 crore]. Frankly, the makers may well be happy if the Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani and Urvashi Rautela starrer even matches the total of Grand Masti, leave aside doubling or trebling the collections. Even a 100 crore affair here would be a step in the right direction for the adult comedy genre, which has seen a bump after Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 and Mastizaade.

As for Dishoom, it is a biggie in the making. Boasting of fantastic production values, courtesy Sajid Nadiadwala as the producer and Rohit Dhawan (who has an eye for visuals – as demonstrated in Desi Boyz) as the director, the film is coming across as an exciting action comedy with cricket and chases forming an interesting cocktail. Varun Dhawan has enjoyed six straight successes ever since he burst into the scene with Student of the Year and is the only actor from his generation to enjoy a 100% track record. As a senior cop, John Abraham is dashing all over again. No wonder, Eros is bringing the film in a huge way.

While Sultan will enjoy an uninterrupted 9 day run, Great Grand Masti would have a fortnight for itself to make merry. Post that, Dishoom too would enjoy a complete fortnight before Rustom and Mohenjo Daro hit the screens on 12th August. While those films should set the records for the month of August, it is time for Sultan, Great Grand Masti and Dishoom to make it large in July.
