Telugu films Bhimaa and Gaami, which opened with hopes on Mahashivratri, are crashing and burning at the box office. Both movies witnessed a steep decline in collections over their second weekend, coupled with negative audience reception, raising serious doubts about their overall performance. Bhimaa Fails to Gather Steam
Directed by A Harsha, Bhimaa had a weak opening and closed its first week with a meagre 9.1 crore net collection in India. Trade analysts point out that the film’s content failed to impress audiences, leading to thumbs-down reviews. Over the second weekend, the film’s performance further dipped, managing only 1.18 crore. This brings its ten-day total to a disappointing 10.28 crore. Experts predict that the movie is unlikely to see any significant growth in the coming weeks and is expected to conclude its theatrical run by this week itself.
Gaami, directed by Vidyadhar Kagita, had a slightly better opening than Bhimaa. However, its performance has fallen flat since then. The film collected a net total of 11.75 crore in its first week but witnessed a significant drop in the second, bringing in a mere 0.6 crore. With a ten-day total of 12.35 crore, the movie is unlikely to recover its investment. Similar to Bhimaa, Gaami‘s theatrical run is expected to end this week itself. Both films are suffering the same fate – content that failed to resonate with audiences.
This disappointing performance adds to the woes of the Telugu film industry, which has seen a string of flops recently. With neither Bhimaa nor Gaami managing to impress, it appears the wait for a box office success story in Telugu cinema may have to continue.
