There was a time in Bollywood when dark stories were reported in a hush-hush tone and then slipped under the covers as if they never happened. This one tale we are about to tell is the same hushed story that no one can deny or confirm that it happened. It was a massive showdown between Akshay Kumar & Shakti Kapoor.
We got our hands on this huge blow between the two seasoned actors on a very old blog that confirms that this brawl of sorts indeed happened at a Diwali party. A little more search landed us on some other pages discussing the same story.
The story is said to have been sourced from an issue of Filmfare in 2003, so if it had been published in the magazine, then it might have happened. It was reported that at one Diwali party, Akshay Kumar allegedly slapped Shakti Kapoor. However, later, Shakti narrated what happened at the party.
In an interview, he said, “Akki was cheating in the game. I told him not to do it. He pushed me, and I fell. He did not slap me. I left the party after that because I didn’t want it to get ugly. Akki’s still a friend, though we haven’t spoken after this incident.”
However, in the January 2003 issue of Filmfare, Akshay Kumar clarified his version of the same story with slight changes and said, “Shakti was an uninvited guest at the party. He was using foul language, which was embarrassing because there were so many ladies present. He was so drunk he couldn’t even stand up straight. All I did was give him a slight shove and he was down on the floor. If he says he saw me cheating at cards, he’s lying. He was so drunk he didn’t know what he himself was doing. I regret even touching him. Later, I asked myself why I even wasted my energy on a drunk. Anyway, it’s too late to have regrets now.”
So definitely, Akshay regretted the massive showdown, and Shakti Kapoor even called him a friend. Well, Diwali parties and high spirits definitely go hand in hand. As for Akshay, he no longer parties much since he has mastered a brilliant lifestyle of ‘Early To Bed & Early To Rise.’
The only thing we are curious about is the card game. Did he cheat or not? He probably tried bluffing since he is known to be one of the biggest pranksters in the industry.
