Two regional language films, which opened today (22nd April), are setting the cash registers ringing. One is a Telugu film, Mr. Perfect, and the other, Jimmy Shergill’s Punjabi film, Dharti. Mr. Perfect, starring Prabhas and Kajal Agarwal, has opened to bumper houses. In Bangalore, the film drew two of the four shows full on the first day at the newly-opened Cinepolis multiplex. In fact, the opening of the seven-screen Cinepolis on 22nd April became like a celebratory event, thanks to the huge crowds which had gathered to watch Mr. Perfect.
In East Punjab circuit, Dharti crushed Dum Maaro Dum under its weight. In most if the cinemas and multiplexes where both the films opened simultaneously, collections of Dharti were eight to ten times the collections of Dum Maaro Dum. For instance, at Wave multiplex in Ludhiana, the first two shows of DMD recorded collections of Rs. 2,773 and Rs. 8,500 whereas the corresponding figures for Dharti were Rs. 21,963 and Rs. 35,824. At Orient in Ludhiana, Dharti drew the first two shows full (Rs. 25,100 per show) and at PVR in Ludhiana, it collected Rs. 31,203 in the first show while DMD could manage just Rs. 5,100. At Harsha multiplex in Karnal, DMD collected Rs. 1,507 in the first show while Dharti collected Rs. 10,086.

Similarly, at Fun multiplex in Ambala, the collecitions of DMD and Dharti in the first show on Friday were Rs. 1,969 and Rs. 16,585 respectively. In Jalandhar also, Dharti was way ahead of DMD at Big multiplex. The first show of DMD netted Rs. 8,520 while that of Dharti netted Rs. 36,510. At SRS multiplex in Patiala, the scene was no different – the first show of DMD was of Rs. 2,880 while the first show of Dharti was of Rs. 20,640.
