If The Dirty Picture brought back the nostalgic sounds of the 80s, Rockstar had a mix of pahadi, grunge, sufi and more! If Delhi Belly was at its obnoxious and rocking best, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was all you needed to lift your spirits. Koimoi.com looks at the 10 best albums of 2011:
Vishal-Shekhar brought back the swinging 80s with songs that perfectly fit and grooved with the film. While Bappida crooning Ooh La La was the highlight of The Dirty Picture album, the lyrics of Twinkle Twinkle and Honeymoon Ki Raat made perfect shady one-liners!
With a movie revolving around a Rockstar, A. R. Rahman was expected to deliver no less than a masterpiece. And that he did. Rahman was at his eclectic best with Rockstar where he managed to pack the sufi Kun Faaya Kun, the grunge Sadda Haq, the pahadi Phir Se Ud Chala and much more in one album.
For Shah Rukh Khan’s magnum opus, Ra.One, Vishal-Shekhar gave a good score of club hits to keep the crowds swinging. Kareena Kapoor’s hip shaking Chammak Challo, and Criminal are good earworms.
With a character as quirky as Katrina Kaif in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, Sohail Sen came up with some really fun songs to suit her persona. While Dhunki was the song for Kat, it was Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s vocals to Isq Risk that gave the dream-like quality to the song.
The faithful Himesh Reshamiyya returned to Salman Khan with some memorable songs like Teri Meri and Desi Beat. Pritam also added his bit to the Bodyguard album.
Explicit, catchy, raunchy: you could use any or all of these words to describe the Delhi Belly album. Needless to mention, Bhaag D.K. Bose became the youth’s favourite with Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics. While Suraj Jagan rocked Ja Chudail, Sona Mohapatra made Bedardi Raja absolutely delicious! Composer Ram Sampath made good use of the free hand given by his producer, Aamir Khan.
With this Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara album, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy gave a saucy Spanish punch. From the uplifting Dil Dhadakne Do, to the catchy Senorita, the songs were an absolute delight in the film.
The show stealer of this Salman Khan starrer was Dhinka Chika, which was a rehash of the addictive Ringa Ringa by Devi Shri Prasad. Even then, Pritam showed his love for Salman with Character Dheela and Meri Ada Bhi in Ready.
This surprise hit starring Kangna Ranaut and R. Madhavan was more fun with Krsna’s wonderful songs. Rangrez and Sadi Galli are definitely our favourites from this one.
Emraan Hashmi gets lucky with the music of his film every time, or maybe it’s just the way the Bhatts roll. Music composers Harshit Saxena, Mithoon, Sangeet Haldipur and Siddharth Haldipur made Murder 2 live up to the legacy of the Bhatt camp.
