User Rating:

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is man who has personified folksy grandeur in contemporary Bollywood. From the flamboyance of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam to the serenity of Khamoshi and Guzarish, the music of his films are enchanting and enduring! The most striking things about Ram Leela was the aroma of Bhansali’s picturesque cinema and its music. This time the maverick himself has taken up the task  of delivering the musical gems of his film on his own and as a composer the man is just as fantastic! With a wide taste in music that is evident from his films, Bhansali pays tribute to the beauty of commercial cinema’s music by delivering an album that intrinsically well contoured!

Deepika Padukone And Ranveer Singh in Ramleela Movie Stills

The film starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh is lead roles in rumored to be a tale of passion and romance based on Shakespeare’s iconic love story Romeo and Juliet. With the release of the film’s trailer, great hopes have been rested on the film’s music. Though director SLB dons the musician’s hat for the first time, the album is a proof that the man is nothing short of legendary even in music!

Tattad Tattad – Ramleela Music Review

Aditya Narayan is fitting well in the shoes of his supremely successful father and in this song, he is perfect. Latching on well to every tune and every beat, the song is carried out with commendable energy. It is already a chart-buster and Narayan’s appreciation is every bit well deserved!

Nagada Sang Dol- Ramleela Music Review

We all have watched Nagada Dhol and yes, despite being similar to Dholi Taro is beats, the mood of the song very different from the upbeat track of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. It is charming folk music, that Shreya Ghosal makes near perfect! I can safely say this is my personal favorite from the film because it is hard to make folk appealing to commercial audiences, and this song manages to do that to perfection!

Lahu Munh Lag Gaya – Ramleela Music Review

Followed by, Lahu Mung Lag Gaya, Bhansali ropes in Shail Hada for it. I could have easily ignored this song but the instrumental arrangement is fascinatingly well synced. Using the rustic tunes from Gujrat, the arrangements of rhythm is so perfectly done that it is mesmerizing.

Ang Laga De – Ramleela Music Review

Ang Laga De is a brilliantly executed seductive track. Aditi Paul renders her voice with perfection. Though it is the picturization of the film that will matter more in enhancing the beauty of this track!

Poore Chand – Ramleela Music Review

Poore Chand is beautiful and don’t be surprised if you are reminded of Aishwarya and Salman dancing to Chand Chupa Badal Mein, the ambiance of the song is just as breezy and soothing! I guess the most bankable factor in this track will be the passionate chemistry of Deepika and Ranveer!

Laal Ishq – Ramleela Music Review

Arijit Singh makes Laal Ishq soulful. By effortlessly making this slow song into a mesmerizing hear, the track is well grounded in classical music and though it treads over six minutes, this one is sheer beauty!

Ishqyaun Dhishqyaun – Ramleela Music Review

Aditya Narayan’s Ishqyaun Dhishkyaun is so average that it seems like a misfit in this perfect album. It is too plain and dull and lacks the required appeal!

Mor Bani Thanghat Kare – Ramleela Music Review

The song has the flavor if poise that most songs from Coke Studio has but Osman Pir’s voice is so spectacular that it is hard to miss this track! Though the Gujrati lyrics will reduce the visibility of this song but Bhansali in this track gives one of the most memorable musical pieces. To say it was pristine wouldn’t be an overstatement!

Dhoop – Ramleela Music Review

Shreya Ghosal’s voice croons hauntingly and this song evokes a range of deep emotions. Passionately sung and flatteringly themed, this song makes evident the reason why Ghosal can be compared to music veterans of the industry. It is a very difficult song and to replicate the gusto of singers like Ashaji or Lataji is something Ghosal has attained with this song!

Ram Chahe Leela – Ramleela Music Review

This song is indeed a laudable product. It takes a few hears to sync the latent beauty of the composition that uses singer Bhoomi Trivedi’s voice confidently. The hint of rock flavor works well when laid against the background of heavy background arrangement!

The Last Word – Ramleela Music Review

Bhansali’s artistic finickiness is something that shows even in his music. He is neat with his tunes and creates soulful sounds with visible conviction. Perhaps the songs won’t hit you well in the first shot, but with the lapse of a few loops, it will be hard to take off the songs from your playlist. The album is one of the best of this year and it resounds with near perfect mystical rendition. I am going with a 4/5 and recommending that you don’t miss this little masterpiece of an album!
