Talaash is finally releasing today and as expected, the film has been on all over for last 10 days at least. With a remarkable turnaround in fortunes, this Reema Kagti film, which was being pulled up for lack of buzz, has eventually found it’s bearing with audience, trade as well as media in general being abuzz about what the film is all about. While Kareena Kapoor is being looked at as an important peg in the scheme of affairs and all the one knows about her role in the film is that she is playing a prostitute, she is happy to talk at length about everything else to ‘save the suspense’.
Guess the idea is to keep mum around the actual characterisation in the film, right?
(Smiles) But that is something that you do for a suspense film, isn’t it? What’s the fun in saying it all when you can as well watch it on screen now?
Well, there is quite suspense around your other film which you were supposed to do with Zoya Akhtar. So what’s happening on her next directorial outing which is said to be bringing you and Ranbir together?
She is still scripting and I hope it works out. She is also a dear friend of mine and next year she should be coming up with something. There is nothing confirmed on that front though. I would love to work with her but there is no decision taken yet.
You seem to have decided on the Prakash Jha film though. After all, announcements have been in order for ‘Satyagraha’ and the release date of 15th August has been fixed as well.
Yes, I am looking forward to getting started on that film. I have never worked with Prakash Jha and now with Ajay in there, it should be a good set up.
There is a good set up expected in the Punit Malhotra film as well as you return with Imran Khan. One may assume a deja vu of sorts since it comes close on the heels of ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’.
But then Punit makes films very differently from Shakun Batra (director of ‘Ek Main…’). He is a lot more Bollywood and quintessentially commercial in approach.
Meanwhile Saif is doing something offbeat as well by signing ‘Bullet Raja’.
Yes, he is mighty charged about it. It is a unique combination of him and Tigmanshu Dhulia. I am sure he must be having good fun.
Well, he did have good fun in ‘Agent Vinod’ as well. However the film didn’t work. That must have hurt, isn’t it?
(Smiles) He has been in the industry for too long to even think about that for an extended period of time. Some films work and some don’t but then you don’t stop in your way. Saif Ali Khan wanted to make Agent Vinod since he was a child and we are glad that he eventually did make it.
Commercially speaking, he did make it with ‘Cocktail’ which turned out to be highest grosser till date.
Yes, we all were waiting for something like that. For Saif we wanted it to do really well and everyone close to him is happy about the fact that it did so well; especially after Agent Vinod.
He is now returning with Deepika Padukone in ‘Race 2’, which is their fourth film together (after ‘Love Aaj Kal’, ‘Aarakshan’, ‘Cocktail’).
Their pairing has worked and that’s good, isn’t it?
