Back in August 2019, Ashneer Grover founded BharatPe, launched its first ad campaign, and roped Salman Khan as their brand ambassador. Not only did they pay a massive remuneration to the Tiger 3 superstar, but they planned to invest around 35 crores more in marketing that year.

Shark Tank fame Ashneer Grover met an advertising agent and gave him a budget of 4 crores to endorse a cricketer as a brand ambassador. His first choice was Virat Kohli, but the Royal Challengers Bangalore player demanded almost 2X the fees.
At the ET Now Global Business Summit, Ashneer Grover revealed, “4 crores me Kohli aa jayega, 9 crores me mai dono ki deal kar dunga (Salman Khan + Virat Kohli). Mai Salman ko us time pe deta tha 3.50-3.75 crores. Bohot ghis ghis ke deal kari thi. Maine bola 4.5 ka budget hai, tu le aa Kohli ko.”
Ashneer Grover was told “Kisiki aukaat nahi hai” apart from Virat Kohli!
The agent told the former Shark Tank judge that Virat Kohli does not get on board below 7 crores. He asked him to get any other cricketer on board but was told, “kisi ki aukaat nahi hai Kohli ke sivaay.” The BharatPe founder then gave him a sum of 4.5 crores and asked his associate to get cricketers on board, promising he would not be asking for any breakup of payments.
Cut to BharatPe on-boarded as many as 11 IPL players as brand ambassadors. The list includes Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, Suresh Raina, Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Shubhman Gill.
