In the 17th Edition of IPL, loyal fans have seen many changes, probably the most significant being MS Dhoni’s exit as the captain. MS Dhoni passed his captain hat to Ruturaj Gaikwad to take charge of Chennai Super Kings. But did you know that Gaikwad gets 50% less salary than MS Dhoni did when he was captain?
Indian Premier League is one of the biggest T20 tournaments in the cricket world. Chennai Super Kings have been a league and fan-favorite team for years now under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Recently, Dhoni again passed on the captaincy baton to all-rounder Ruturaj Gaikwad. Before Gaikwad, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja also took over the reins of CSK, making Ruturaj the fourth captain.

Reports had been circulating that there was a significant drop in the new captain’s earnings. According to reports, Ruturaj’s salary is just half of what MS Dhoni earned as the captain. Dhoni, who has been pivotal to the foundation of Chennai Super Kings and continues to do so, was earning Rs. 12 Crore as the captain.
But Ruturaj Gaikwad reportedly was essential to CSK’s win in the 2021 IPL and, earning only Rs. 6 Crore as the new CSK captain. The earnings reports have surprised CSK and IPL fans. While Dhoni’s earrings are justified, the gap between the two salaries is drawing attention.
However, fans need to catch up on the fact that Ruturaj was retained by CSK in 2022 for Rs. 6 Crore. Gaikwad also proved excellent and very beneficial to CSK in 2021 and achieved the orange cap. He became the highest run-scorer with 635 runs from 16 matches for the four-time champions.

However, Gaikwad’s salary has significantly increased, going from Rs. 20 Lakh in his first IPL innings to now earning Rs. 6 Crore and taking over the captain’s role.
Chennai Super Kings registered their first win of IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. They were beating the team by six wickets.
The team is set to play another vital match on March 26th, at 7 PM, against Gujarat Titans, under captain Shubman Gill. IPL 2024 streams on Jio Cinema and airs on Star Sports Network on cable and DTH.
