Carell is also the show’s co-creator and executive producer. In addition, Paul King is on board to direct two episodes of the series, including the pilot.

The show, which was ordered in January, is being described as a workplace comedy centred around the people back on Earth tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services. The announcement came shortly after US President Donald Trump opened up about plans for a sixth branch of the military dedicated to protecting American interests in space.

The 10-episode series is expected to premiere in 2020. Greg Daniels has co-created the series along with Carell and serves as showrunner, with Howard Klein of 3 Arts also executive producing.
