Johnny Depp Gets A Green Signal In His Libel Battle Against A Leading Publication For Calling Him A ‘Wife Beater’ (Pic Credit – Johnny Depp/Facebook)
Versatile actor Johnny Depp has been pretty consistent in making headlines and more often due to his personal reasons. The latest one about Depp is, that his legal battle against the British tabloid newspaper, The Sun, has been allowed for the proceedings.
For the unversed, The Sun’s publisher News Group Newspapers tagged Johnny Depp as a ‘wife-beater’ in April 2018’s article. And for the same, the actor is suing Dan Wootton, the executive editor of The Sun and News Group Newspapers (NGN), for defaming him. The article was published after ex-wife Amber Heard made the allegations of physical abuse on him.

To make their argument strong, NGN asked Johnny Depp to provide the text messages to the court, which had a connection with his domestic violence act, as per them. But Depp and his legal team failed to provide text messages.
Earlier, NGN’s legal team stated that Johnny Depp has breached the court order by not providing the text messages. As per them, the text messages tracing back to late February and early March of 2015 between Depp and Amber Heard, were somewhat connected to the incidents of domestic violence. But Depp’s barrister argued that the text messages weren’t relevant at all.
Taking into consideration of NGN’s statement, Mr Justice Nicol concluded that the actor has breached the court but today, his ruling quoted, “I am not persuaded that the trial of the claim would be unfair.”
Johnny Depp’s legal team apologised for breaching the court order. Addressing the same, Justice Nicol said that he would grant ‘relief from sanctions’ and gave a green signal to the proceedings. The case will go ahead from 7th July onwards at the Royal Courts of Justice, London.
