Vin Diesel has been a huge part of the Fast & Furious franchise and it won’t be wrong to say that he has largely contributed to its great success. In our previous trivia, we have discussed how Vin wasn’t happy about the idea of a sequel to The Fast and the Furious (2001).
This is why he didn’t even star in 2 Fast 2 Furious even when he was offered $25 million dollars. However, he came back to the franchise with a cameo in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and then did a full role in 2009 film Fast & Furious.
And today we will tell you how exactly Vin Diesel made the comeback and how director Justin Lin convinced him for a cameo in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
So after he refused to star in 2 Fast 2 Furious, Justin Lin was told that there’s no way he is getting Vin Diesel for Tokyo Drift. But Lin and Universal exec Jeffrey Kirschenbaum really wanted to get him on board for the finale.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Vin Diesel agreed with Universal to do a cameo in Tokyo Drift but only if they give him and one of his One Race production company rights to the Riddick character from his sci-fi film The Chronicles of Riddick. Both of them agreed and Vin became a part of Tokyo Drift.
As per moveablefest.com, while talking about Vin Diesel’s coming back for the franchise during a Q&A session, Justin Lin said that it took him hours to talk to the star, “We talked our way to going to his house. I remember he was showing us his Dungeons and Dragons book and stuff like that and I ended up talking by his poolside for four hours about the mythology (of the series) and his relationship with Han. It sounds crazy, but all the way up to Fast 6, a lot of that was talked about that night in 2005.” he said.
Cut to eight months later when they were testing the film for the first time, Lin said, “When Vin Diesel showed up, I remember sitting in the audience and the crowd went crazy and that’s when the studio went, ‘Wow, maybe we should bring him back.’”
