Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur’s The Family Star has had another ‘not-so-great’ day at the box office after registering an underwhelming opening. The film opened at 5.75 crore at the box office on day 1 and has now registered lower numbers on day 2 as well.
Drop On Day 2
The rom-com produced by Dil Raju and helmed by Parasuram is Vijay Deverakonda‘s 13th film. It witnessed a drop of almost 30%, which is huge since the opening numbers were also not very high.
On the second day of its release, The Family Star collected only 4 crore at the box office. The film might take off on Sunday, but the chances seem very low. The opening number of 5.75 crore has already been one of Vijay’s lowest openings in recent years.
Vijay’s last release at the box office, Kushi, which starred Samantha Ruth Prabhu, registered an opening of over 15 crore at the box office. Even Liger opened in the same range. Kushi was also a romantic comedy. Vijay’s Dear Comrade also had a double-digit opening. His last single digit opening was with World Famous Lover that opened at around 7 crore at the box office.
Change Of Release Date
Initially, The Family Star was supposed to be released on Sankranti, but looking at so many films occupying the festival, the team decided to postpone the release and occupy a better-suited release date to avoid clashes and hamper the film’s box office collection.
Tamil Version Not Helping
The Family Star has also been released in Tamil, but clearly, it is not helping the family drama pick up pace. On the opening day, the Tamil version of the film contributed 20 lakh to the 5.75 crore. Meanwhile, on day 2, it collected almost 30 lakh.
Fails To Cross 10 Crore
In two days, The Family Star has collected 9.75 crore at the box office, failing to touch the 10 crore mark. In two days, Vijay’s last film, Kushi, collected 25.15 crore at the box office. Meanwhile, Mrunal Thakur‘s last release, Hi Nanna, collected 8.95 crore in two days.
Hopefully, things might get better for The Family Star on the third day.
