Stree 2 has made a rock-solid start at the ticket windows. Thanks to the paid previews, the film has added a whopping 64.80 crores to its box office collections on day 1. Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer did the impossible, registering 837% higher ticket sales than Vedaa on BookMyShow in the last 24 hours. Scroll below for a detailed analysis.
As most know, Amar Kaushik‘s directorial is in a three-way clash with John Abraham led Vedaa and Akshay Kumar starrer Khel Khel Mein. The makers pulled off a smart strategy, and paid previews were planned on Wednesday evening, which added 9.40 crores to the kitty even before the big release.
Stree 2 vs Vedaa vs Khel Khel Mein ticket sales
On Independence Day, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s film sold a whopping 729K tickets on BookMyShow. This is a 837% increase compared to 77.78K tickets sold by Vedaa. Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein lags much behind in the race, with only 64.81K tickets sold on its opening day.
The results are pretty much visible in the opening day collections. While Stree 2 surpassed expectations with 60 crore+ collections, Vedaa earned around 7 crores*, even below the collections made by paid previews of the horror comedy flick.
On the other hand, Khel Khel Mein made an underwhelming start at the box office with only 5.50 crores* in the kitty. This is indeed disappointing for a film that is a multi-starrer featuring Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, and Taapsee Pannu, among others, in leading roles.

The horror flick, directed by Amar Kaushik, is the sequel to Stree (2018), which was a super-duper hit affair at the box office. Maddock Films and Jio Studios jointly produce it. The supporting cast features Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi. It is the fifth film in the Maddock Supernatural Universe after Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Bhediya 2.
