Now, that’s how you get to know the kind of potential that the Indian box office has if audiences catch a fancy to a film. It was there for all to see when Pathaan, Gadar 2, Jawan and Animal became all-time blockbusters. That was the time when scoring a single day half century seemed like a norm. However, it all came crashing down in 2024, with none of the Bollywood movies managing even 25 crores even on its opening day.
Well, Stree 2 has come and showed all over again that this is indeed possible and what’s remarkable is that it has managed to do it at a time when, barring a handful of films, not many have managed even a double-digit opening. Here, the budget is not even 100 crores (unlike so many other star-laden films released this year), and that number would still be globally surpassed today rather comfortably. Audiences have given the go-ahead to the film and how, what with a half-century being scored at the Indian office in just a little over a day.
While Wednesday’s paid previews had brought in 9.40 crores, Stree 2 has surpassed all perceivable expectations by registering a mammoth 55.40 crores. Yes, you read that right! In fact, if not for the clash, it would have been the only release of the weekend and, very importantly, would have got a much broader showcasing.

As a result, a solo release would have meant that the film could have stretched towards the 70 crore mark in a single day. For now, though, Stree 2 has reached 64.80 crores by the close of Thursday, and while there would be a drop in numbers today due to the working day factor, it will create havoc all over again tomorrow till Monday (due to the Rakshabandhan holiday).
