Stree 2 Box Office Review: Pre-Release Buzz & Expectations

Right from the announcement, the film generated good hype around itself. Further, when Maddock made it official about developing their supernatural horror universe, the excitement went to the next level. Time and again, with films like Bhediya and Munjya, the hype kept on rising. For example, Shraddha Kapoor’s appearance in Bhediya’s Thumkeshwari song made it clear that the Stree sequel would be connected to Bhediya in some way in the future. Again, Munjya’s success gave an overall boost to the horror universe.

Even before any promotional material came out, there was a perception that Stree 2 would surprise everyone at the box office due to talk about the Maddock Supernatural Universe and the goodwill of its predecessor. The buzz went a notch higher after the trailer turned out to be good and was well-received by the viewers. It promised a good time to the audience in theatres. Post the trailer, the song sung by Pawan Singh (Aayi Nai) became a chartbuster and provided mileage to the film. On top of that, the rumors about Varun Dhawan and Akshay Kumar’s cameos worked very well and helped in generating solid pre-release hype.

On the whole, right from the announcement phase to the promotional phase, things fell in the right place for Stree 2. Being a sequel, it saw a bumper response in advance booking for the opening day, and that has helped create a positive perception among the neutrals and has triggered an unprecedented buzz on social media.

So, in the pre-release phase, Stree 2 successfully placed itself in a position to easily achieve an all-time blockbuster verdict.

Stree 2 Box Office Review: Initial Start, Positives & Negatives

Stree 2 registered 2024’s third-highest opening day advance booking at the Indian box office, surpassing biggies like Fighter, Indian 2, and others. It gives a clear message that the film is unstoppable and is all set to register an unprecedented start. Going by the trend, it seems that the mark of 40 crores net will be comfortably crossed. For Bollywood, it is already the biggest opener of the year, and if we talk about all Indian films, it is set to be the second biggest opener of the year by beating Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram (42 crores).

Speaking of positives, the film has passed the content test with flying colors, and that’s the most important thing when it comes to pulling off an extraordinary collection in the long run. With positive word-of-mouth and reviews, it will definitely attract more footfalls in the coming days as the combination of strong buzz and positive word-of-mouth is deadly.

Even though the Stree sequel is in a clash with Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa, it’s a clear one-sided winner, and even exhibitors have given the majority of the shows to this sequel. Considering the craze in the atmosphere, the film is expected to face capacity issues in some places, so there is a chance that shows of both Akshay and John’s films would be cut down to provide extra showcasing for this horror comedy.

Looking at the opening day response, Stree 2 seems to work well among both the mass and class audience. Another thing that’s working in favor is that the film has no major competition till Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 hit theatres. There are some noteworthy releases in between, but they won’t make a huge impact on the run of this sequel.

Coming to negatives, the Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer doesn’t have much repeat value, so it loses that extra chunk of business due to the repeat audience. Other than this, there’s not much that works against this film.

Stree 2 Box Office Review: Final Verdict

On the whole, Stree 2 is an all-time blockbuster in the making, with a lot of things working in favor. It’s another example of what a sequel can do at ticket windows if it’s well-promoted and hits the right chord with the audience. Last Independence Day, we saw Gadar 2 minting big moolah due to its sequel factor and nostalgia factor. Now, it’s time for Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor to create ‘Gadar’ at the Indian box office as it is expected to earn 400-420 crores in the lifetime run.
