Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan is churning out phenomenal numbers at the box office. The film witnessed a massive jump on its 3rd Saturday as well, and now the film is all set to take another huge leap on the 3rd Sunday.

Early estimates also suggest that the horror flick will churn out great numbers at the box office over the extended Holi weekend. The film has already grabbed the top spot for the best horror film in the last 20 years.

However, while Shaitaan grabs rank #1 for being the highest-grossing horror film in the last 20 years, it is still to achieve a record that is still held by one of the biggest horror hits in the last 20 years.

The Last Horror Hit

Before Shaitaan, the last horror film that was released in theaters was Bhoot Part One, preceded by Pari in 2018, starring Anushka Sharma. However, the films did not earn a hit tag at the box office. Interestingly, it was released in Holi as well. The last hit horror hit was in 2014 with Ragini MMS 2, which collected 47 crore at the box office and was a super hit.

The Last Horror Disaster

In 2020 it was Vicky Kaushal‘s Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship that collected 31.24 crore and was at the losing end. In 2018, 1921 arrived in theaters, which collected 15.67 crore and was at the losing end as well. Even Raaz Reboot in 2016 was at the losing end with 29 crore. The last horror disaster was in 2016 with 1920: London that collected 14.62 crore at the box office!

The Most Profitable Film

The most profitable horror film in the last 20 years arrived exactly 20 years ago. It was in 2004 that Raaz changed the face of horror films in India. Starring Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea, the film collected 21.32 crore at the box office and was the highest-grossing horror film for a long time. Raaz was made on a budget of 5 crore and churned out 326.5% profit at the box office! 

Shaitaan, with its close to 125 crore collection, will take a long time to churn out as much as Raaz’s profit! But owing to the pace of Ajay Devgn‘s film, which is held at the box office, it might overrule Raaz as the most profitable horror film in the last 20 years!
