Scream 7, the seventh installment in the long-running slasher franchise, is nearing the end of its fifth week in theaters and continues to hold a spot among the top ten films at the domestic box office. After delivering a strong $63.6 million opening, it added another $2.6 million over the March 27-29 weekend, taking its cumulative domestic total to $119 million.
As of now, it ranks as the third-highest-grossing film in North America in 2026, trailing only Hoppers ($139.6 million) and Project Hail Mary ($169.2 million), according to Box Office Mojo.
First Scream Film To Cross $200 Million Worldwide
At the global box office, Scream 7 recently surpassed the original 1996 Scream’s $173 million worldwide total to become the top-grossing entry in the series. With a current worldwide total of $204.4 million, it has now become the first film in the franchise to cross the $200 million milestone. The latest installment has also pushed the Scream franchise past the $1 billion mark worldwide, bringing the series’ total to over $1.1 billion.

However, now that Scream 7 is available on various digital platforms in the U.S., its further domestic earnings might take a hit. That said, after outgrossing several past hits like Ford vs. Ferrari and The Wolf of Wall Street, it is now nearing the North American total of Ryan Reynolds’ hit action-comedy Free Guy (2021).

Given its current momentum and stage in its theatrical run, Scream 7 is well-positioned to close the gap and potentially overtake the Ryan Reynolds starrer in North America. That said, the final box office verdict should become clearer in the coming weeks.
