Domestic Performance & 2026 Rank
Scream 7, the seventh installment in the long-running slasher franchise, is nearing the end of its fifth week in theaters and continues to hold a spot among the top ten films at the domestic box office. After delivering a strong $63.6 million opening, it added another $2.6 million over the March 27-29 weekend, taking its cumulative domestic total to $119 million.
As of now, it ranks as the third-highest-grossing film in North America in 2026, trailing only Hoppers ($139.6 million) and Project Hail Mary ($169.2 million), according to Box Office Mojo.
First Scream Film To Cross $200 Million Worldwide
At the global box office, Scream 7 recently surpassed the original 1996 Scream’s $173 million worldwide total to become the top-grossing entry in the series. With a current worldwide total of $204.4 million, it has now become the first film in the franchise to cross the $200 million milestone. The latest installment has also pushed the Scream franchise past the $1 billion mark worldwide, bringing the series’ total to over $1.1 billion.

However, now that Scream 7 is available on various digital platforms in the U.S., its further domestic earnings might take a hit. That said, after outgrossing several past hits like Ford vs. Ferrari and The Wolf of Wall Street, it is now nearing the North American total of Ryan Reynolds’ hit action-comedy Free Guy (2021).
Here’s how much more the slasher horror needs to earn to outgross it at the domestic box office.
Scream 7 vs. Free Guy – Box Office Comparison
Here’s how the two films stack up at the box office, according to data from Box Office Mojo:
Scream 7 – Box Office Summary
- North America: $119 million
- International: $85.4 million
- Worldwide: $204.4 million
Free Guy – Box Office Summary
- North America: $121.6 million
- International: $209.9 million
- Worldwide: $331.5 million
What The Numbers Indicate
Based on these figures, it seems unlikely that Scream 7 will surpass Free Guy’s $331.5 million worldwide total. However, the race at the North American box office is quite close. At present, the slasher hit is trailing by roughly $2.6 million domestically. Given its current momentum and stage in its theatrical run, Scream 7 is well-positioned to close the gap and potentially overtake the Ryan Reynolds starrer in North America. That said, the final box office verdict should become clearer in the coming weeks.
What’s The Plot of Scream 7?
Directed by Kevin Williamson, the seventh installment in the Scream film series is about a new Ghostface killer who shatters the quiet life Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built in a small town. When her daughter (Isabel May) is targeted, Sidney is forced to face her past again to protect her family and stop the killings before more lives are lost.
