Two distinct films release this weekend. While ‘Nautanki Saala‘ is an out and out multiplex film, ‘Commando‘ would be eyeing its audience at the single screens. Though promotion of both the films began two months back, surprisingly the kind of hype that one expected hasn’t really been generated.
Given the fact that ‘Nautanki Saala’ comes after ‘Vicky Donor’, it could have gone all the way in its pre-release buzz. However currently all eyes are on how the word of mouth spreads for this Ayushmann Khurranna film. It definitely appears to be a classy affair from Rohan Sippy, as has been the case with each of his films. Still, its offbeat theme coupled with an experimental narrative means that a lot would depend on how the end product shapes up. From the opening perspective though, it may just do a little better than ‘Vicky Donor’, which had itself grown due to audience word of mouth spreading like wildfire.
Other release of the week, ‘Commando’, could well have been a ‘Phool aur Kaante’ moment for Vidyut Jamwal. However this too is on a wait and watch mode. The initial promos did impress in a major way due to never seen before action. The momentum though was sustained in weeks to follow, and not quite gathered steam, which means yet again all would depend now on the eventual content on display.
Both films benefit from the fact that they are distinct from each other as far as genres are concerned. Also, since both are mid-budget films, they won’t cut into each other’s business. However they have one week to bring on moolah since ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ arrives a week later. Moreover, there is ‘Chashme Baddoor’ running as well which would prove to be decent enough challenge. One can expect a Friday opening in the range of 20%-30% for both films followed by audience verdict coming into play over rest of the weekend.
