Predictions came true to the T for Aashiqui 2 as the film ended up enjoying a 40% opening for itself. This was pretty much on the cards after the music caught on well amongst the audience and results were there to be seen as film saw an incremental footfall for itself during the weekend. The fact that it was found decent to good response, both from audience as well as critics, meant that the word of mouth stayed positive as well, hence allowing this Mohit Suri directed film to breathe easy.

As a result, after an opening day of over 6 crores, the film held on well to bring in 20 croresin the opening weekend itself. This also means that the film has now enjoyed one of the best weekends that 2013 has offered so far with collections that are comparable to some of the biggies and much more hyped films of the year. The success is all the more sweet since the film’s cost is merely 8 crores and profits have already started flowing. Also, with relative newcomers like Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, it is also the best that a film of this budget, size and scale has fetched at the box office.

Another film which ended up bringing joy for distributors, exhibitors, audience as well as trade in general was Iron Man 3. A biggie of mammoth proportion, it too went from strength to strength after celebrating with an opening day of over 7 crores. With weekend collections of approx 25 crores, the film is huge by all means as it worked across all languages (English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu) with response for the 3D version being excellent. The film would be further enjoying a longer stay for itself since there is no major Hollywood competition at the Indian screens for many more weeks to come.
