What a sad run it has turned out for Great Grand Masti. When announced, the film was a hot property all the way. So many bigwigs from the industry came together to collaborate on the film which was expected to be bigger and better when compared to Masti and Grand Masti. After all, latter had entered the 100 crore club and the industry, trade as well as audiences were sure that when the third part is released, it would set the Box Office on fire.
The film got delayed in release due to censor troubles but still, it was felt that the franchise factor would ensure loyal audience. Yes, there were scares galore when Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 and Mastizaade turned out to be disappointing. However, Indra Kumar and Co. kept their cool and there was some sort of positivity that came in when the film’s theatrical promo was released. It was quite apparent that the film was not being an unabashed adult comedy and an interesting twist of horror element was added to it. Moreover, the songs sounded interesting too and it seemed that the film was coming back on track.
However, the piracy element sent shockwaves amongst all involved with the film. Panic button was pressed and without an optimal amount of promotion and marketing, the film was released haphazardly in theaters. Not many were aware of the film’s release and the outcome was empty houses. This was evidenced on Friday and even Saturday, as a result of which the film stands at mere 5.5 crore*.
On the other hand Sultan did benefit since it is almost an only option for the audience. With 9 crore* more coming in and the total currently standing at 245.59 crore*, Salman Khan is roaring all over again. Rest assured, it has a week open all for itself to add on to the moolah, which would take it closer to an All Time Blockbuster status.
