Yami Gautam’s Article 370 is making all kinds of right noises at the box office, and in two days, the film stands tall at around 15 crore box office collection, promising a bigger jump on Sunday and taking the three-day total to 25+ crore. However, one cannot deny the political allegiance of the film. In the past few years, the trend of allegedly politically driven movies has shot up.

It all started in 2019 with Uri: The Surgical Strike, which turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office. The film, starring Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam, was brilliantly supported and promoted as well, allegedly by the ruling party.

While Uri was a nationalistic film, no one objected to the politically driven bias attached to it. However, the other films, despite negative reviews, went on to collect much bigger numbers, to everyone’s surprise. In murmurs, the films were said to be agenda films. Similarly, Yami Gautam’s Article 370 is being appreciated well, apart from its great box office performance.

These films that were inspired by real incidents got support from the audiences. Some of these films also faced litigations and protests, especially last year’s release, The Kerala Story. But the latest political drama produced by Aditya Dhar is being received positively by the critics as well. The other politically motivated films in recent times have been The Kashmir Files and The Vaccine War, both directed by Vivek Agnihotri. Interestingly, both of them stand lowest in the rankings of these films.

Highest & Lowest Opener

In this list of politically motivated films, Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam’s Uri: The Surgical Strike stands the tallest as the highest opener. The Aditya Dhar film collected 8.20 crore on its opening day. On the other hand, Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War stands at the lowest with an opening of merely 90 lakhs.
