Four releases and three hits already – This is how Sonakshi Sinha‘s track record in Bollywood stays as life comes back full circle for her on Christmas eve, what with Dabangg 2 all set for release exactly two years after Dabangg. In the midst of this all, hits like Rowdy Rathore and Son Of Sardaar have managed to consolidate her position further in the 100 crore club.
The way things are going for you Sonakshi, can it be said that the daughter of ‘Shotgun’ has fast turned out to be a ‘Hit Machine’?
(Laughs) Well, people tell me that ‘you are the lucky mascot’ but no, I don’t think that is really the case. I am lucky and blessed to be a part of these films that have turned out to be huge.
You are being modest. Come on, give yourself some credit?
(Smiles) The credit that I give myself is that I have had the common sense to say ‘yes’ to such films. After all, when I read a script and get good reactions on the paper level itself, I am keen to know how the film would look like on the 70 MM. It is this excitement which is the driving force for me to pick and choose my films.
As for the excitement and the driving force, playing ‘Rajjo’ must have been motivating enough to sign ‘Dabangg 2’, isn’t it? After all, you are playing a much married woman opposite Chulbul Pandey a.k.a. Salman Khan in the film.
Well, the beauty of this relationship is that there are very sweet dialogues between a husband and a wife here. Generally in movies you see romance between a couple only before marriage. You hardly see any married couples romancing on screen. However we have brought that in Dabangg. Arbaaz Khan has shot these scenes beautifully by bringing in quite a few sweet situations. People are definitely going to enjoy them all.
Well, they did enjoy your part in ‘Son of Sardaar’ as well and accepted you as a Punjabi girl.
People felt that I fitted most naturally in a Punjabi role (Smiles). I am very happy since the role was very nice for me. People used to say sometimes that in my other films I didn’t have much to do, but in Son Of Sardaar there was a lot more to do. I guess it was a gradual process for me to grow from small to big and then bigger. I am taking it slow & easy and things are falling in place beautifully.
Things indeed seem to be fitting in well for you, what with ‘Lootera’, ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2’, ‘Bullet Raja’ and ‘Namak’ keeping you occupied. Is there a space or time for another film to be chipped in?
I don’t shy away from work. In fact if I don’t work for a single day then I feel most bored. I can comfortably work for 12-14 hours a day and at times have even stretched to 16-17 hours. I like it that way though. So to answer your question then yes, there is one more film that is on its way. An announcement is coming soon (Smiles).
