CLAPTRAP: A dialogue or a scene which evinces claps from the audience in the cinema halls is called a claptrap dialogue/scene. Koimoi.com looks at the films in 2011 with the best dialogues.

Yamla Pagla Deewana

When you have a delicious mix of Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, not only can you exploit their real life relationships but also make references to their previous movies. And that’s exactly what writer Jasvinder Bath did for Yamla Pagla Deewana! Bath gave Sunny raucous dialogues like, “Jat risky, after balti whisky!” and Dharmedra had the roaring, “Ilaka kutton ka hota hai, behen ke takke, sher ka nahi!”

Pyaar Ka Punchnama

The dark horse of the race, Pyaar Ka Punchnama, may not have had the most profound lines of 2011, but Luv Ranjan, Sumit Saxena and Vaibhav Suman wrote rants, punches and one liners that had boys and men in the theatre nodding vigorously in agreement. Remember the 5-minute long “Dimag ki dahi”?

Singham

For once, the hero and the villain gave us more than enough punches — both in words and action — thanks to Rashid Sajid! If Ajay Devgan tried to intimidate his rival with, “Jismein hai dum, to fakt Bajirao Singham!”, Prakash Raj was no less with his furious, “Ataa majhi satakli!” and “Abhi ke abhi!” in the hit film Singham.

Bodyguard

Salman Khan’s second innings in 2011 with Bodyguard was a treat with sprinkled with his dialogues like “Mujhpar ek ehsaan karna, ki mujhpar koi ehsaan na karna.” J. P. Chowksey, Kiran Kotrial and Siddique gave the straight-faced Salman many clap-worthy dialogues.

Ra.One

Niranjan Iyengar had the enviable task of writing dialogues for two Shah Rukh Khans and Arjun Rampal in Ra.One. Not only did he come up with cryptic ones like, “Burai sang jo mel rachaya, phir kabhi naa chhute uska saaya…”, he also gave the villain some memorable ones like, “Tum log har saal Raavan ko isi din jalate ho kyunki tum jaante ho ke Raavan kabhi nahi marta.”

The Dirty Picture

Rajat Aroraa got us to believe that there was no Vidya Balan on screen, there was just Silk. With dialogues like, “Kuch logon ka naam unke kaam se hota hain, mera badnaam hokar hua hain” and “Filmein sirf teen cheezon ke wajah se chalti hain: entertainment, entertainment, entertainment… aur main entertainment hoon” you could barely stop clapping throughout the movie!

Don 2

Shah Rukh Khan ends the year on a high note with Don 2 and the dialogues are already popular with the public. “Don aadmi ka naam bhool sakta hai… lekin yeh nahin bhulega ki usse dafnaya kaha tha,” is just one of the few gems.
