When Pooja Bhatt Said, “Being The Daughter Of An Alcoholic Makes You Four Times More Susceptible” – PAST TENSE(D)

Pooja Bhatt was amongst the rare celebrities who opened up to the world about her obsession with alcohol. She started drinking at the age of 16, and there was no looking back for her. The Sadak 2 actress at the age of 45 realised that she needed to stop or she could die. Below is the scoop you need.

It was back in 2017 when Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter shared about her journey with alcoholism. She turned for the sober way and even spent Christmas and her birthday without a single peg.

But there was a time when Pooja Bhatt found alcohol comforting. In fact, she couldn’t imagine herself sitting at a gathering without a glass of booze. Talking about her journey, the actress said to TOI, “Alcohol is comforting, it colours your evening. It’s a socially accepted narcotic even at business lunches and in the boardroom. Also, living in a fast-paced city, being in a high-stress profession, it becomes a reason to celebrate and cope with failure. Your film is a hit, you bathe in champagne, it flops, a single malt lessens the pain.”

Pooja Bhatt also mentioned the aftermath of her father being an alcoholic. Talking about how she decided to bring a stop to it all, “Luckily, I pulled the plug before it became impossible for me to stop. I’m in the pink of health except for the weight I put on because I’m now a stressful producer. But being the daughter of an alcoholic makes you four times more susceptible to becoming one,” she told the tabloid.

Furthermore, the actress mentioned how she was almost on the verge drink herself to the grave, had she not stopped.

“I was 45 and if I wanted to give myself 10 years of living, I had to quit now before I drank myself to the grave. I had to reclaim the sharper, brighter me which had got watered down,” said Pooja.

Pooja Bhatt recently made her return to Bollywood with Sadak 2. The film was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and also starred sister Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt.
