We are back with another shocking relationship timeline – a relationship of envies and enemies! These arch-rivals were none other than two leading ladies of the 90s – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Manisha Koirala. Both of them were Bhansali muses, but there was something else that was common between them – it was a man who was dating Manisha and very close to Aish.
Probably a friendship that was misread by Manisha or a genuine case of two-timing, but Aish’s closeness with Manisha’s then-boyfriend became the talk of the town, all thanks to the Sanju actress who claimed in media that she discovered love letters between her boyfriend and Aish.
However, once things got out of hand, Aishwarya Rai decided to spill it out in a full-fledged interview where she did not hesitate to attack Manisha Koirala’s character and also gave herself a clean chit over all the allegations of her meddling with the relationship and more.
In an interview with Showtime Magazine, later quoted by BollywoodShadis, the Guru actress said, “At the beginning of 94, a leading magazine came out with this ‘red hot scoop.’ Rajeev was supposed to have dumped me for Manisha. I called up Rajeev the moment I came to know about this, asking what all the crap was about. Rajeev was a very good friend of mine, but there was nothing beyond that. I told him I didn’t want to get roped into their love story. After two months, they weren’t seeing each other. Manisha was seeing a different guy every second month.”
The actress also revealed how she was so impressed by Manisha Koirala‘s work in the film Bombay that she wanted to send her a bouquet. However, Rajeev told her that Manisha claimed that she discovered Rajeev’s love letters written to Aish, and it was the reason behind his split with Manisha. Aish could not tolerate the allegations, and she blasted Manisha over such fabricated stories after 9 months of her breakup with Aish’s friend Rajeev.
During the same interview, she mentioned, “This Manisha episode really affected me a lot in the beginning. I cried like crazy. I was really hurt miserably by all that was happening around me. After saying so much, she kept saying that she had been misquoted. After that split, she had innumerable affairs, according to the media, so why didn’t anybody ask her why she hadn’t come out with the info the previous year itself?”
Aishwarya Rai even had a problem with her name cropping up every time Manisha was being discussed or vice-versa since she never intended to be the fodder for any such gossip. She questioned, “I mean, if there was any kind of authenticity to this article, why didn’t this piece of info come out in July 94? I never wanted to be bracketed with any particular name. But today, the media has played it up so much that if somebody takes my name, Manisha’s name comes to mind instantly, and vice-versa.”
Well, it has been ages since the confusion happened, and hopefully, the two leading ladies of Sanjay Leela Bhansali might brush this off as a silly ‘Bachpan ki baatein’ sort of conversation!
