The last couple of months have been a nightmare for Nick Newman on The Young and the Restless. Ever since his nemesis Matt Clark was revealed to be alive, Nick has been desperate not just to track him down but also to bring him to justice. Though his own drug addiction has made matters worse.
Nick may claim everything is okay when those around him notice his weird behavior, but things are far from okay. He is struggling and getting worse with each passing day. Joshua Morrow, who plays the role, dished on how this spiral could lead to Nick hitting rock bottom if he didn’t get help soon.

During a conversation with Soap Opera Digest, he shared that, as usual, Nick is not someone who asks for help. The actor explained, “He thinks he can handle everything.” But it isn’t going to be as easy this time with Nick addicted to drugs after he became dependent on painkillers post his injury.

Joshua revealed that he researched drug use and questioned his sister, who is a doctor. He added that fentanyl is a massive problem in the US, and he was a little scared to delve into such a story because he was scared he wouldn’t be able to do it justice. He wants to make this storyline impactful.
The soap star divulged, “I wanted it to be palpable. When you’re watching it, I was hoping people would feel something.” The aim is to make this a whole journey where Nick spirals and hopefully comes out of it, becoming an even better person on the other side of this massive mess.
“I don’t think he’s considered yet the ramifications of how serious this can be. I think there will be some way to make a correlation here with what his mother went through,” Joshua mused, referring to Nick’s mother, Nikki, also having had some serious and recurring issues with alcoholism in her life.

And while Nick is simply trying to stay under the radar and navigate this, if he did something horrible that led to someone he loved getting injured or worse, “that would be rock bottom for him,” the 52-year-old explained this spiral and its potential consequences in the near future if left untreated.
