Sheldon played by Jim Parsons in The Big Bang Theory is one of the most loved TV characters of the current time. While he is a Physics nerd, a lot of people find him relatable because of his anti-social nature.
At the same time, due to some of his characteristics, a huge section of fans have felt that he may be suffering from Asperger syndrome and Obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, the co-creator of the show, Bill Prady denied it once.
As per mentalfloss.com, talking about the same, Bill said, “We write the character as the character. A lot of people see various things in him and make the connections. Our feeling is that Sheldon‘s mother never got a diagnosis, so we don’t have one.”
Jim Parsons himself denied knowing about the same. In a conversation with Adweek back in 2014, he said, “Asperger’s came up as a question within the first few episodes. I got asked about it by a reporter, and I had heard of it, but I didn’t know what it was, specifically.”
He added, “So I asked the writers—I said, ‘They’re asking me if Sheldon has Asperger’s’ and they were like, ‘No.’ And I said, ‘OK.’ And I went back and I said, ‘No.’ And then I read some about it and I went, OK, well, if the writers say he doesn’t, then he doesn’t, but he certainly shares some qualities with those who do. I like the way it’s handled … This is who this person is; he’s just another human.”
The Big Bang Theory started airing on CBS in 2007. The show had 12 super successful seasons and aired on TV till 2019. Apart from Jim Parsons, the show’s major star cast had names like Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Mayim Bialik, Melissa Raunch, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg.
Even after the show has ended, it continues to rule the hearts of people on Netflix. A spin-off titled Young Sheldon is also doing immensely well.
