The Marvels is the last MCU movie of 2023 to release in theatres. The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel, and Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn. The film is directed by Nia DaCosta, who co-wrote it with Megan McDonnel and Elissa Karasik.
The Brie Larson starrer received few positive reviews from the audience and critics. It even failed to mint good numbers at the box office. The MCU film was released on Disney+ a week ago, and the reception wasn’t exciting. However, Zawe Ashton, who played the villain, has made a big revelation.
The Marvels’ Alternate Ending
Zawe revealed The Marvels’ alternate ending, almost killing Brie’s Captain Marvel. Yes, you read it right. Instead of Monica Rambeau getting pushed to another universe, Carol Danvers would combust along with Dar-Benn.
Zawe told Comicbook, “There was another ending that we did a film where Brie and myself are kind of in space still having it out, and they kind of combust together, which was really amazing. And that was just a day on wires hanging out with Brie, which is surreal and fun. But yeah, there were a few different plans, I think.”
With Monica Rambeau’s character travelling to another universe, it has opened the gate for X-Men. However, if the makers had stuck to the original ending, how would it have shaped the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Avengers 5? We don’t think the makers would permanently kill Captain Marvel, considering they haven’t explored the superhero’s potential much yet.
The Marvels’ ending has left Carol and Kamala in the same universe. Together, the duo might help each other overcome everything that happened with Monica. We may see Kamala or Ms Marvel shaping into a powerful superhero under Carol’s guidance. The duo will definitely have a crucial role in whatever the next big thing Kevin Feige and the team have planned for the universe.
