Academy Award-winning filmmaker Mel Gibson’s highly-anticipated movie Flight Risk, starring Mark Wahlberg in the lead role, is all set to arrive in theatres! The film will be released on January 24, 2025. Flight Risk marks Gibson’s return to the director’s chair after the heavily-acclaimed 2016 movie Hacksaw Ridge.
The movie is set against the stunning yet perilous backdrop of the Alaskan Alps and stars Academy Award-nominee Wahlberg as a pilot tasked with transporting an Air Marshal, played by Michelle Dockery, and a fugitive, portrayed by Topher Grace, to trial. However, as their flight crosses the unforgiving Alaskan Alps, tensions rise, trust is shattered, and it becomes clear that not everyone on board is who they seem. The high-octane action-thriller is written by Jared Rosenberg.
Speaking about directing Flight Risk, Mel Gibson said it was a unique challenge and a rare opportunity. The filmmaker revealed he was captivated by the script’s unpredictable twists and dynamic tone. “The script kept me guessing and had some unexpected laughs; it was terrifying and had an intriguing mix of elements I found charming. There are no dead spots,” Gibson shared.
Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg spoke about the collaborative energy on the Flight Risk set and lauded Gibson’s vast experience as a filmmaker and actor. “Mel has so much experience as a filmmaker and as an actor. Michelle, Topher, and I each came in with ideas, and Mel was willing to try anything to service his vision,” he mentioned.
Gibson’s longtime producing partner, Bruce Davey, also underscored the director’s immersive approach to storytelling. “When Mel approaches a script to direct, he does so from inside the story, characters, and production, not from the outside. He puts you inside the action, making you feel that he and you are right there,” he stated.
Mel Gibson also reflected on his initial reaction to the story and shared, “It was terrifying, but I laughed a lot, was shocked at times, and terrified. I wanted to share with audiences all that I saw in it.”
Flight Risk promises an exhilarating ride packed with suspense, shock, and even moments of unexpected humor. It is a cinematic experience, designed to keep audiences on the edge of their seats from takeoff to landing, making it a must-watch on the big screen from January 24, 2025, onwards.
