It was Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man who commenced the cinematic journey for Marvel. In Avengers: Endgame, we witnessed his character’s death in the climax scene. After all, to fight a mighty villain like Thanos, one has to expect loss and pain. Sadly, it was everyone’s favourite Tony Stark who sacrificed his life.
Along with Tony Stark, even Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow sacrificed herself at Vormir. If she wouldn’t have done it, Avengers would never get their hands on the soul stone. If that wasn’t enough, Avengers: Endgame makers left our hearts broken by showing old Chris Evans. Steve Rogers gave up his superpowers as Captain America and decided to live a normal life when he traveled back in time.
But what if we tell you the makers had more brutal plans to break our hearts? That’s our Avengers: Endgame trivia #51 for today. In the film, 2014 Thanos finds out the plans of future Avengers to take away the infinity stones. Hence, the Mad Titan was going enter the final battle with 2012 Captain America’s head in his hand. He was going to travel back in time and kill all the 2012 Avengers who were fighting Loki in the New York battle. Yes, you read it right.
During EW’s San Diego Comic-Con, The Russo Brothers made this earth-shattering revelation. Anthony Russo said, “We clung to that storyline for so long just for that moment of Thanos walking through a portal and dropping Captain America’s severed head.”
Joe added, “We had most of the script working except for the third act, because Anthony and I were clinging to this concept that we wanted Thanos to walk up to the Avengers and throw Captain America’s head on the ground. We couldn’t give up on it, and finally, we said, ‘All right, what if we don’t do that, can we find another way into the third act?’ And that’s when it turned into what it is now.”
Imagine the horror when 2023 Captain America would see his 2012 self’s head lying in front of him! That would have been a nightmare not only for him but also for the fans. We’re glad the Avengers: Endgame makers changed their minds later.
