The 2024 is turning out to be really good for the Mollywood (Malayalam) industry, at least during the first quarter of the year. One after another, films are turning out to be successes, and the biggest of them is Premalu, which is still going strong at the worldwide box office. In the latest development, the film is now steadily moving toward the 100 crore mark. Keep reading to know more!
Directed by Girish A. D., the romantic comedy was released on 9th February, during Valentine’s week. Upon its release, the film saw a positive response from audiences, and even word-of-mouth was favorable. It received good support from young audiences and is also enjoying a boost due to repeat audiences.
Premalu at the worldwide box office
Premalu has completed a theatrical run of 20 days and is already a super hit. In India, it has earned an impressive total of 36.50 crores net, which equals 43.07 crores gross. It’s much beyond expectations, and everyone is surprised with this result. In the overseas market, too, the film has done fantastic business, earning 29 crores gross so far. Combining both, the worldwide box office total is 72.07 crores gross.
The Girish A. D. directorial is going strong at the box office with a super-steady momentum. During the third weekend, a healthy jump is definitely on the cards, and while there’s still a distance to cover, the mark of 100 crores gross is very much in reach. If that happens, the film will emerge as an all-time blockbuster in the history of Mollywood cinema.
Positive impact on the OTT deal
As per the report on Track Tollywood, Premalu didn’t close any OTT deal prior to its release. However, now, after the super success at the worldwide box office, the deal for OTT rights has been closed, and it is locked by Disney Hotstar. Interestingly, the makers have now got double the amount they had asked for earlier.
