Premalu has turned out to be the first major box office success for the Malayalam film industry in 2024. While a new release like Bramayugam is doing a decent job at ticket windows, this teen rom-com is impressing everyone by showing solid momentum not just in India but at the worldwide box office. Reception of Premalu
Directed by Girish AD, the rom-com was released on 9th February. Upon its release, the film received positive reviews from critics, and even the audience’s feedback was highly positive. As a result, after a start below 1 crore mark, the film picked up the pace and maintained a rock-steady trend at ticket windows. Despite new releases, it managed to enjoy a run of its own.
Premalu at the worldwide box office
After a start of just 0.92 crores, Premalu witnessed a surprising trend over the next few days. In the second week, it ended up earning more than the opening week, thus hinting at a long theatrical run. Talking about the latest collection update, the film has raked in 29 crores net at the Indian box office in 15 days. It equals 34.22 crores gross.

In the overseas market, too, the film is a big success and has earned 23 crores gross so far. Combining both Indian and overseas gross, 57.22 crores gross. With this, it became the first Malayalam film of 2024 to cross the milestone of 50 crore gross at the worldwide box office.
Budget of Premalu
While the exact figure is not known, the trade buzz suggests that the budget of the film is around 9 crores. Taking it into consideration, if we remove this number from the domestic collection, Premalu stands at an ROI (return on investment) of 20 crores. If calculated, it equals 222.22% returns, thus making it the first major success of Mollywood in 2024.
