While its box office fate will be out in the next few days, the trailer of Ajay’s next magnum opus is already here. Maidaan is easily one of the most delayed Bollywood projects in recent times. Due to COVID-19, cyclone, and several other undisclosed reasons, the film has suffered too many postponements. Of course, considering the scale and other post-production things, this biggie wasn’t an easy one to pull off. So, we’re glad that the film has finally found its arrival date.
The trailer was dropped yesterday at 3 pm, and it was released across several YouTube channels. So far, it has received positive reviews from the viewers, but there are some who are finding it similar to Shah Rukh Khan’s Chak De India and Akshay Kumar’s Gold. The good thing about the promo is that no one has outrightly rejected it.
The 2-minute and 43-second trailer presents Ajay Devgn as an earnest football coach avatar. The production design and VFX work are good, taking you to the era of the 1950s and 1960s. While the plot might come off as similar compared to a couple of Bollywood sports dramas, the presence of actors like Ajay and Gajraj Rao keeps us engaged. The background score and music by AR Rahman is impactful, as far as the trailer is concerned.
On the whole, the trailer of Maidaan has done its job, and even though it is releasing in a clash with Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, the festive season of Eid ensures it will rake in a healthy start. As of now, the film is in a position to enjoy a day 1 of 17-19 crores at the Indian box office. With this number, it’ll be Ajay Devgn’s 3rd biggest opener of all time.
