High Court Vacates Stay On ‘Knock Out’ Release

Actor Sanjay Dutt can finally heave a sigh of relief as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, Mohit Shah, and Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud have stayed the injunction granted by single judge Mrs. Roshan Dalvi on releasing of the film, Knock Out. The film now releases worldwide on 15th October, 2010.

With this, the controversy over the alleged copyright violation by the producers, Sohail Maklai Entertainment Private Limited, has finally been put to rest. The Hollywood studio, 20^th Century Fox had filed a petition over copyright violation, claiming that Knock Out was a copy of their 2003 Hollywood film, Phone Booth.

Justice Dalvi, who was adjudicating on the matter, had organized a special screening of both the films on Wednesday. After the injunction granted by her one day before the release of the film, the producers immediately approached the division bench of the high court, which vacated the stay.

Besides Sanjay Dutt, Knock Out stars Irfaan Khan and Kangana Ranaut. Phone Booth featured Colin Farell and Forest Whitaker in a hostage drama, where the victim is trapped inside a phone booth. Nevertheless, 20^th Century Fox is expected to continue the legal fight. At least, round one of the Knock Out Vs. Phone Booth goes to Knock Out.
