Out of all Indian film industries, the Malayalam film industry or Mollywood has enjoyed tremendous success so far in 2024. One after another, the industry has witnessed big successes at the worldwide box office. Recently, Manjummel Boys surpassed Pulimurugan to become the second highest-grossing Malayalam film globally. Things started on a good note with Jayaram’s film
Mollywood saw its first big commercial success in 2024 with Jayaram’s Abraham Ozler. Released on 11th January, the film did well at the worldwide box office and amassed 42 crores gross. It benefitted immensely due to positive reviews and word-of-mouth, thus setting a positive tone for the Malayalam film industry right at the beginning of 2024.
Momentum continued with Premalu!
While the Jayaram starrer gave a good start, Premalu gave Mollywood its first blockbuster of 2024. Released on 9th February, the romantic-comedy enjoyed a highly positive response from critics and audiences alike. It is still running in theatres and enjoying repeat audiences. Apart from that, its Telugu dubbed version was released recently, thus giving an extra boost to the worldwide collection. As of now, it has amassed 100.05 crores gross globally.
Released on 15th February, Bramayugam is one of the most appreciated Indian films of 2024. However, here, in India, it didn’t turn out to be a big success. Speaking about the global sum, the film put on an impressive show and raked in 55.61 crores gross. This horror biggie is still running at selected locations.
Manjummel Boys is set to create history!
Manjummel Boys has already become an all-time blockbuster of Mollywood. It’s an unstoppable force at the worldwide box office, and in the next few days, it’ll surpass 2018’s 181 crores gross to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film in history. As of now, it stands at 173.10 crores gross.
Combining the worldwide collection of all these four biggies, the total stands at 370.76 crores gross. It’s an impressive number, as the first quarter of 2024 is yet to finish. Truly, it’s been a remarkable year so far for the Malayalam film industry!
